Bird-watching

Pousada Roanna Praia do Frances Alagoas

sombre hummingbird brazil

Hummingbirds are very frequent visitors to our garden, it's great to watch them  have a bath on the banana plant leaves after the sprinklers have been on.

Brazilian Pied Water-Tyrant

Atlantic Rainforest

The view from our upstairs terrace is a small strip of  Atlantic Rainforest (Mata Atlântica) that abounds with birds.

A few of the birds that we have already been able to identify include Pied Water-Tyrant, Greater and Smooth billed Ani, Sombre and Swallow-tailed hummingbirds, Fork-tailed wood nymph, Illiger's Macaw, Great Kiskadee, Toby Flycatcher, Black Vulture, Ruddy-ground Dove, Burrowing Owl, Guira Cuckoo and Squirrel Cuckoo

Bird Watching Brazil

Planning a bird watching trip to the Amazon or Pantanal.  Many guests who stay with us love the luxury and comfort here at Roanna before or after roughing it in areas where amenities maybe sparse and few,   they also top up their birding lists with our beautiful local birds. Internal flights are very reasonably prices here in Brazil and Maceio has flight connection with all the Brazilian cities. Also just a short drive from Roanna is the Murici nature reserve   The American Bird Conservancy describes Murici as “probably the most important place for bird conservation in the Western Hemisphere” due to its extraordinary density of unique birds, including six endangered and  five critically endangered bird species”  The following endangered and critically endangered birds inhabit Murici:  Alagoas foliage gleaner,   Alagoas antwren,  Alagoas tyrannulet,  White-collared kite, Plain spinetail,  Seven-color tanager,  Orange-bellied antwren,  Golden-tailed parrotlet,  Scalloped antbird,  Buff-throated purpletuft,  White-winged cotinga.
